Rockaway Beach - Part 2: Portland

Once we got to the condo, we unpacked and got comfortable and spent some time enjoying the beach. The next day we debated spending it at the beach, or going into Portland. We saw advertisements that the Portland Zoo offered discount tickets on the second Tuesday of each month, which just happened to be the next day! So after tons of driving the past two days, we decided it was worth the trip and hopped in the car again to go to the Portland zoo and explore the city. It was an incredible day. Since the zoo had discounted tickets, it was completely packed. When we got there, there was no parking left, so there were signs directing us on how to park and take the metro in to the zoo. That ended up being one of the best decisions we made. The kids absolutely loved the metro, it discounted our zoo tickets even more, and it allowed us more time to use the metro to play around the city!

The zoo was almost like a sanctuary; it was unlike any zoo I have ever visited before. We spent hours there and loved every minute. Unfortunately, some of these pictures are out of order - sorry for jumping around!

Daddy is as big as a bear! The kids were pretty excited about that.

There was a huge amphitheater and tons of places to picnic

After the zoo we took the train in and had pizza at Sizzle Pie at a recommendation from Jared's friend. It was delicious!

Across the street from dinner - we saw Powell Books and decided that would be our next stop. I was THRILLED as any book lover would be.

Here are the rest of the zoo photos. We had such a great time seeing all the animals and habitats.

Taking a break after Leila fell and skinned her knee.

Here she is mid-wail from the pain. Poor baby!

We paid for the little zoo key so we could listen to all of the animal facts! Basically it was just one more thing for the kids to fight over ;)
