You are such a pain in my...foot

For the past 8 months I have had intense pain in my right foot and mild pain in the left. It started getting worse when I was training for the 5ks I did at the end of last year. After the 5k before Thanksgiving the pain was so bad, I could hardly walk. Since then, I haven't really been able to exercise or even walk some days. Being the stubborn person I am, I just figured I would "walk it off". I didn't really change any of my daily habits and I didn't want to pay the $40 co-pay to go and see a podiatrist.

Until the pain became unbearable. Where I couldn't even walk when I would wake up in the morning. By the end of the day, my foot and heel were swollen and I would have sharp pains anytime I took a step or even rested my foot on its heel.

I finally decided that the $40 co-pay was worth it. I had to know what was wrong.

He took one look at it and said it was: PLANTAR FASCIITIS. Awesome.

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot. This tissue is called the plantar fascia. It connects the heel bone to the toes and creates the arch of the foot. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the thick band of tissue on the bottom of the foot is overstretched or overused. This can be painful and make walking more difficult.

It was nice to know that I am not crazy and that there is something wrong with my foot! The bad news is that I can't do any impact training - not even walking. I can only ride a bike (which I don't have), swim (I don't have a pool) and elliptical (also...I don't have one!!!). Bleh. So the weight loss will have to solely be what I eat. Hopefully this doesn't keep me down for long.

  1. I had the same thing because I wore high heals to work everyday. You can get inserts that make it SO Much easier to walk around. It goes away with time. Get a foot soak tub, warm water, some epsome salt and RELAX! I forget how long it took to go away... it is NO joke! Good Luck! Just before bed I would freeze a waterbottle and put it on the floor and rub my foot back and forth on it... you are welcome!

  2. Im so sorry. That really stinks. I told Phil that he probably has it and he kept telling his friends he has "plantar fish-titis". Silly boy. I hope you feel better soon.

  3. yep, I had it too. I got some really good shoes and wore those and did my exercise first thing in the morning before it had gotten swollen and unbearable during the day. Once I started losing weight it went away.
