Big News

I know most of you have already heard this, but I thought that a blog post was necessary for such a seemingly momentous occasion. Okay, it isn't SEEMINGLY momentous...it IS momentous, I am just feeling overwhelmed today.

In less than 7 months, I will be a mother. That's right folks, I am having a baby that has an expected due date of March 2, 2011! I am currently on my way to 12 weeks along at this point and so far I have already encountered the most awful morning sickness I could have possibly imagined, an immediate up-chuck reaction to hot dogs (and for some reason, the smell of BBQ sauce), and complete and total exhaustion. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined how TIRED I felt for the first 2 months. It took every ounce of energy I had to lift my head off the pillow in the mornings and drag myself out of bed.

The good news? Most of this has passed! Hallelujah!

I could post pictures being that I am almost through the first trimester, but all you would really see is that I am BLOATED! Bleh. Luckily, there hasn't been any weight gain yet, for which I am grateful. Jared and I are walking 4-5 times a week, and so hopefully that helps ensure I don't become humongous!

The past couple of days I have just been feeling overwhelmed with the responsibility that is coming my way. I am excited, but nervous. My life will soon change drastically, and I have a feeling that my relationship with Jared will too. Any ideas on how to balance work, a kid and a husband?

  1. I'm so excited for you guys! Obviously I don't have children yet, but we do have a 6 month old puppy who feels like a child sometimes (albeit a child you can put in a cage for up to 6 hours at a time) BUT It does make it harder when you have to watch her every second so that she doesn't chew, pee on, or destroy everything in the apartment.

I would say that from the very beginning make sure you have a scheduled date night every week. Just YOU time, no baby. And get in the habit of doing fun things again just like when you were dating.

Decide before you have the baby who is going to be responsible for what. Are you going to trade off midnight diaper changing and/or feedings? What is the plan for household chores and what do you expect out of baby life?

I think making sure that you are both on the same page will save a lot of headaches and frustrations when it's 1am and baby is wailing :) Good luck!!!

  2. Nikki told me today (I've been so busy I haven't been on my computer for days) and I'm so excited for you! A few words of wisdom from someone who's been around the block...like 4 times...and for 11 years...

*Enjoy EVERY moment. Babies grow so fast. Ignore the dishes in the sink (or make hubby wash them) and snuggle with your baby. Count each finger and toe over and over. Laugh at the funny faces they make while sleeping. Kiss your baby over and over and over.

*Sleep while baby is sleeping (at least for the first couple months, then aim for a nap at least.)

*Have one-on-one time with your hubby. Even if it's talking for a few minutes before you go to bed.

*Relax. Trust yourself. You were designed to be a mom. It is your divine calling. Seek guidance from above when you need help. (But keep the number to your pediatrician and a girlfriend in the know close.)

I will come up with some more later, but it's enough to get you thinking. I can't wait to find out what you are having...I love buying baby presents!

I could give you WONDERFUL words of advice but all you really need to remember is to ENJOY THE RIDE. It will have UPS and DOWNS and it will be SO life changing. As long as you and hubby are a team you can do ANYTHING!
Glad the sickies are going away. I used to take naps on my lunch at work!! THAT helped alot!
Mommy things come naturally, and like Tiffany said girlfriends are always there and so is our Heavenly Father!
SO HAPPY FOR YOU! Rest and Relax now!
